Scale to Winner of

British Pie Awards 2011

Morecambe Football Club accomplished a different sort of goal by fending off competition from numerous butchers, bakers and chefs to win the Supreme Champion Award at the British Pie Awards. Adam Equipment was pleased to support the awards by providing a prize of a WBW-M scale to the winner of the annual culinary contest, held in June in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, United Kingdom - home of the pork pie.

Consisting of chicken, leek and ham, the winning pie was created by Graham Aimson of Morecambe Football Club in Morecambe, Lancashire, UK. Graham, head chef for the club, happily accepted his award, in addition to his brand-new WBW-M Approved Wash Down Scale. On hand to present the scale was Pat Welch, director of Allprep Ltd. in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Allprep is an Adam Equipment distributor.

The football club, which bakes its own pies, not only earned top honours in the overall contest, it also won awards for best football pie and best pie made by a small producer. To make winning even sweeter, the recipe was Graham's own original creation. Graham commented that garnering top accolades in a contest of this magnitude with his own creation was life-altering.

"Winning the Supreme Champion Pie Award was an unexpected surprise and honour," he said. "Given the fact we are a small team of chefs in a football club, we never even thought we had a chance of winning the award when up against bakers and specialist pie makers. Winning swept us all off our feet."

Contest judges included food industry celebrities such as food writers Xanthe Clay and Charles Campion, celebrity chef and food campaigner Rachel Green, author Tamasin Day-Lewis and Georgi Gyton, senior reporter at British Baker.

This was the third year for the event, which was held at the historic St. Mary's Church, attracted more than 600 entries and was featured on the ITV morning show "Daybreak," as well as other television programmes.
